Financial Literacy and Money Management

Take control of your money: budget, track spending, save safely, understand interest and debt, avoid scams, handle…

About this course

Money problems rarely come from earning too little alone. They usually come from not knowing where the money goes, borrowing at a high cost, falling for a scheme that promises too much, or having no plan for school fees, rent and emergencies. This course gives you practical habits and simple arithmetic you can use on any income, whether you live on a student allowance, earn a salary, ride a boda-boda or run a small shop.

You will start with your money mindset and the difference between needs and wants, then look at your sources of income, including irregular income, and learn to track every shilling. Next you will build a realistic monthly budget in UGX using the 50/30/20 idea, zero-based budgeting and the envelope method, and adapt it when income changes from week to week.

The later modules cover saving and emergency funds, where to keep money safely, how interest and loan costs really work, mobile loans and loan sharks, insurance, basic investing without false promises, taxes for individuals, scams, family and relationship money pressure, and the habits that build wealth slowly. You finish with a personal financial plan and a 90-day money plan. This course gives education, not personal investment advice; for mobile money and online payment safety, see the course Digital Finance, Mobile Money and Safe Online Payments.
