Project Management Basics

Plan, run and finish projects that deliver: scope, goals, schedules, budgets, risks, teams and reporting, using free tools and a worked youth ICT club example.

About this course

Every community group, school, church, business and NGO runs projects: a training week, a borehole, a tree-planting day, a new website, a fundraising dinner. Projects that are planned and tracked well finish on time and make a real difference. Projects that are not often run out of money, lose volunteers and disappoint the people they were meant to serve.

This course teaches the basic ideas and tools of project management in plain language. You will learn how to define a project, write clear goals, break work into tasks, build a schedule and budget, manage risks, communicate, track progress with simple boards, and close a project properly with lessons learned and a report for donors.

No experience is needed. You can use a notebook, a spreadsheet or a free online tool. The final module walks through a complete plan for a youth ICT club so you can see every step together.
