Many people in Uganda and across East Africa have good ideas for a business, but ideas alone do not pay school fees or rent. What matters is whether real customers will pay, whether the money coming in is more than the money going out, and whether the owner can keep going when things are hard. This course gives you a practical, step-by-step way to find out early and cheaply, before you spend your savings.
You will start with the entrepreneurial mindset and the different kinds of business, then learn to find real problems and test them by talking to customers. Next come customer groups, market size, the business model canvas, pricing, costs, break-even and cash flow, with worked examples in Uganda shillings from a poultry farm, a phone repair stall, a bakery, an online tailoring shop, a boda-boda delivery startup and a tutoring app.
The later modules cover simple bookkeeping, separating personal and business money, mobile money, registering a business in general terms, legal and ethical basics, marketing, sales conversations, metrics, teams and co-founders, funding options, risk and pivoting, and a 90-day launch plan. The course gives general education, not legal, tax or investment advice; rules and costs change, so always confirm with the official bodies.
